Title

A novel overlay-architecture based GNSS multi-band front-end

Abstract
This paper presents a proof-of-concept implementation of a novel GNSS multi-band front-end architecture based on intentional path superposition for the new wide-band GNSS signals. It enables the simultaneous reception of both L1/E1 and L5/E5 GPS/Galileo bands with broad bandwidth using only one common baseband path thanks to intended analog signal combination. The SNR degradation resulting from this combination can be minimized by setting the gain of one signal path amplifier to an appropriate value. The frontend architecture, its hardware realization and its components description are presented, and measurement results are analyzed.
