Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to describe a XML based approach to the exchange, the storage and the retrieval of bibliographic records in ICONDA®Bibliographic (International Construction Database). After the studies of existing approaches, we have developed the Bibliographic Metadata Format (BMF) that is based on the XML, and emulates data elements according to ISO 2709. The new format is used not only to exchange bibliographic records, but also to store the records in the database. The article presents a mechanism for the retrieval of XML based records with Microsoft SQL Server.
