Title
Kinetic study on some cases of the curing reaction behaviour of A-B systems with A and B as isocyanate and polyol or amine and epoxide
Title Supplement
With autokatalytic activation of A or of B; with catalytic activation of A
Abstract
The curing of A-B systems is widespread. It appears with the formation of the elastomer binders with composite rocket propellants (CRP) or elastomer-plastic bonded high explosives (ePBX). The pairing of A and B is mostly isocyanate and polyol to form by polyaddition reaction an urethane elastomer or amine and epoxide to form an epoxide-based elastomer, also used to make duromers. The A and B react basically in a reaction of second order to form the chemical bonding between A and B. The overall reaction can be more complicated by adding a curing catalyst or a reactivity masking additive and by a type of autocatalytic activation of one of the reaction partners. But by this the bimolecular reaction between A and B is not annulled or suspended. Here the full reaction schemes for several cases are developed and the coupled differential equations are numerically integrated with some values for the reaction rate constants, chosen to elucidate the typical concentration behaviour of the involved species. Experimental following of the concentrations can be planned according to these results or methodology.
