Polarization insensitive frequency conversion by four-wave mixing in a semiconductor optical amplifier

Abstract
Polarization insensitive frequency conversion is realized using a Mach-Zehnder type phase modulator in combination with four-wave mixing in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Additionally, the chirp of the input signal is removed. BER-measurements after transmission over standard fiber are reported.
