Abstract
An example for the application of the solvatochromic fluorescence of 8-(phenylamino)-1-naphthalenesulfonate is presented: Epicuticular waxes from needles of spruce (Picea abies) show characteristic differences in chemistry and morphology correlated to aging and microclimate. Gas chromatographic analysis of several fractions require a preparative separation by means of TLC. 8,1 ANS proved to be a suitable reagent. No interference with GC analyses could be detected in blanks under the experimental conditions. (IUCT)
