Rapid detection of hazardous nuclear materials using modern portable measuring devices

The tracking of nuclear material requires immediate and reliable measurements, including identification of the nuclides within the objects concerned, by means of portable measurement systems designed for on-site use. The Fraunhofer Institute for Technological Trend Analysis (Fraunhofer INT) has had the opportunity, at the Joint Research Centre (JRC), to test the practicability of such measurement systems for analysing real fissile material.
