Title

Using wind turbines for providing defined levels of synthetic inertia in system split scenarios

Abstract
In this paper, we discuss the possibility to provide defined levels of Synthetic Inertia (SI) by means of wind turbines in case of system split events. It is shown how the available reserves in converter power of turbines, operating in partial load or curtailed mode, could be used to provide SI independent on wind speed. Furthermore, the application of an additional Super-Capacitor module for smoothing the mechanical loads and omitting the minimum wind speed constraints for SI provision is proposed and demonstrated in simulation.
