Title

Acoustical behaviour of inhomogeneous plates and structures

Abstract
This dissertation had the objective to demonstrate reliable evidence for the existence of resonant inhomogeneities, using a combination of theoretical modelling and experiments. Different specimens bearing tuned vibration neutralizers were constructed for this investigation. The results obtained have revealed the expected divergence from the conventional mass law of the sound transmission loss caused by inhomogenous resonant behaviour. The project has obtained an essential framework for further studies on innovative inhomogeneous partitions that achieve an increase in the sound transmission loss within the "mass law" region despite being lightweight.
