Title
A Flexible MATLAB/Simulink RMS-Framework for Electrical Power Systems Designed for Research and Education
Abstract
This paper describes the design and implementation of a MATLAB/Simulink based framework for root-mean-square (RMS) simulation of electric power systems. The RMS-framework is especially designed for research and education. Its main properties are flexibility and scalability. Flexibility means that each component of the framework can be adjusted to the specific application case. Scalability means that the framework can handle big datasets and large amounts of dynamic components by using a vectorized approach and a data format that is based on tables and matrices. The implementation of the grid equations as well as a standard synchronous generator model are shown. Furthermore, a show case of a 120-bus low-voltage island grid simulation with ten photovoltaic systems and a diesel generator is given in order to show a basic application of the framework.
