For many years so-called linear models of science, technology and innovation have been used. In essence they reflect sequential processes mostly starting with a science push and ideally ending in an innovatitive product. These models disregard the extreme uncertainties under which innovation-related decisions have to be taken. For that reason a cyclic model of the coupled functions of science, technology and innovation is introduced.
