Productivity and Quality Propagation Modeling in Battery Manufacturing

Abstract
Finite fossil fuels and the need for reduced carbon dioxide emissions have led to an increase in battery electric vehicle sales. To meet the demand of this steadily growing industry segment, large amounts of battery cells are required. Therefore, large-scale battery cell manufacturing has become a major part in the pursuit of a sustainable transportation sector. However, battery manufacturing is a complex procedure and there are multiple challenges that have to be solved in order to provide a high productivity and quality. The implementation of digital tools in the battery manufacturing lines can support these aims. Additionally, this chapter proposes a quality flow model and derived mathematical equations for the optimization of a serial battery manufacturing line with inspection and repairing stations.
