Hybrid Visualization Component for Planning Cellular Radio Networks

Planning a digital, cellular radio network (GSM, Global System for Mobile communication) requires powerful visulization and interaction techniques. In this paper we present a visualization component with special ephasis on flexible, yet exact, hybrid display of data and on a close interaction between planner, visualization system, and simulation process. The concepts outlined in this paper have been the basis for implementing a specialized geographic information system for planning cellular radio networks. This system is being used by a major German telecommunication company and has proven its usefullness in everyday work.
