Title

Optical isolation by orthogonal polarization

Abstract
Generalizing the quarter wave plate principle, for example, the local oscillator laser of an integrated optical heterodyne receiver can be isolated. Isolation of approximately 20 dB is experimentally obtained for a laser diode butt coupled to a Ti:LiNbO3 waveguide.
