Anticrossings induced by index depressions and their impact on mode area scaling of active large pitch fibers

Rare-earth doping of the core causes index depressions. Their influence on anticrossings of the fundamental mode with cladding modes in double-clad Large Pitch Fibers is investigated numerically. The impact on mode area scaling is discussed.
