Title
Model-predictive control for the automated production of thermoplastic composite pressure vessels
Abstract
Thermoplastic type IV composite pressure vessels consisting of a polymer liner and additional fiber-reinforced polymer layers are produced by laser-assisted tape winding. The analysis of the process temperature exposes the need for advanced control strategies to achieve a stable and reproducible temperature input to the nip point between tape and substrate. A model-predictive control (MPC) is set up based on an experimental process model created by the systematical production of test samples. The model-predictive approach utilizes the experimental data to predict the process behavior in a defined time step. An MPC controller is programmed, adjusted and optimized in a simulation environment. The MPC is integrated into a laser-assisted tape winding system and validated by analyzing the temperature behavior during the production of tubular components.
