Analyse der Baden-Württembergischen FuE-Strukturen und Potentiale in der Biotechnologie

Biotechnology activities in Baden-Württemberg have been analysed on the basis of a written questionnaire and face to face interviews. The industrial basis of biotechnology in this region is considered broad. In terms of turnover or occupation, the significance of biotechnology in Baden-Württemberg (and also in other German States) is presently still rather low. The rate of start-ups formation has been decreasing since the beginning of the 90th. The R&D basis in Baden-Württemberg is considered as very good. The necessary scientific and technological know-how is available here, biotech companies are not dependent on know-how from abroad. Even though there are some typical problems also in Baden-Württemberg (e. g. inadequate capital availability, over-regulation in certain areas, public acceptance), this region is considered a good location for industrial biotechnology activities.
