Title
On the interactions between mushroom-type EBGs and striplines
Abstract
A study of the interactions between a mushroom-type electromagnetic bandgab (EBG) structure embedded between the parallel-plates of a power distribution network (PDN) and striplines routed between these plates is presented. It is observed that this interaction leads to a change in the electrical characteristics of both the stripline and the EBG: the EBG eliminates cavity resonances which normally distort signal propagation on striplines when routed between a power-ground plane pair; the striplines cause a shift in the stopband of the EBG. The degree of this shift depends on the number of lines and where they are placed in the cavity. Consequently, the presence of striplines should be taken into account when designing EBGs.
