Title
Computer-aided overhead line design - new methods and algorithms
Abstract
The aim of this research project is to find a compromise between expensive underground cables and inexpensive overhead lines. The two focal points of research are: a: The representation of planned overhead lines in the landscape as seen from a chosen observer position using a colour graphic display. b: The quantitative evaluation of the visibility of the overhead line on the landscape. Theoretical investigations have determined factors influencing the visibility. On the basis of these preliminary considerations it was possible to develop a software-package (3DOG= 3-dimensional representation of objects in the landscape), which reconstructs the landscape in 3D from the data of topographic maps with vegetation, buildings, and planned right-of-way and carries out visibility analysis and graphic exercises. This paper explains the package in more detail and finally gives an example for the application of the introduced process.
