Evaluation of Visual Assistance System Technologies for Supporting the Information Need of Production Workers

Abstract
This chapter investigates which digital visual information media are suitable to support production workers in battery production. First use cases representing typical tasks in battery manufacturing with an information need and task-specific requirements are defined. Corresponding requirements are defined based on various use cases. The suitability of the technologies is finally determined by a weighted calculation of the ratings assigned by experts. This procedure is described as an independent method. In summary, the statements can be made that tablets and smart watches enable generic use to support workers with visual information. Stationary screens are a very good alternative, but are only suitable for specific use cases. AR technologies, in sum, are not suitable to support workers in a production environment. Difficult operation, high effort for setup and little compatibility with the user are the limiting factors here.
