Title

Dynamic Adaptation for Serious Games in Hand Therapy

Abstract
Hand injuries are common and often require long-term physiotherapy. Patients need to do repetitive and often painful exercises multiple times a day. This leads to patients losing motivation and not adhering to their home exercises. Smartphone-based rehabilitation games may help these patients to stay motivated. Because patients may suffer from a variety of movement impairments, these games require control systems that candy namically adapt to a patient's range of motion. In this thesis I present the design and implementation process of one such adaptive control system. I evaluate the system in a usability test and discuss how the results may be applied to future designs.
