Title

Green Ammonia as a Decentralized, Cross-Sector Energy Vector for the German Energy Transition

Abstract
The significance of ammonia as a carbon-free energy carrier is increasing amid the energy transition, especially for long-distance transport. The Fraunhofer flagship project "AmmonVektor" combines the competence of eight Fraunhofer Institutes to develop innovative technologies for decentralized ammonia synthesis, utilization, and logistics. The aim is to establish ammonia as a key technology to enhance Germany's energy sovereignty. The research focuses on developing flexible ammonia synthesis processes and robust ammonia cracking technologies with energy-efficient reactor designs and economically competitive catalysts. Additionally, innovative business models are investigated. This research ensures a sustainable energy supply while supporting UN climate goals.
