One year experience with a solar house with transparent wall insulation - TWI

In 1988 a semi detached 2 1/2 storey house with 65 qm transparently insulated walls was erected in Freiburg. Building has been occupied since December 1988. This privately financed project demonstrates that a solar house with a large area of TIM facade and additionally a sunspace could provide sufficient heating comfort and could achieve an apealing appearence. The design of the solar components, which is based on reserach development at the Institut für Solare Energiesysteme (ISE), is reported. First experience shows the feasibility of transparently insulated buildings.
