The futures of artificial intelligence. Implications for Europe’s R&I ecosystem. Part 4: Scenarios and opportunities

The project Futures of Artificial Intelligence (AI) aims at exploring future contexts and the potential development of AI until 2040. To allow open imagination in the context of AI - will the EU be an AI leader or are we facing an ‘AI winter’? - five different, possible scenarios of AI were built. Three of the scenarios served as think pieces and were used to discuss implications for the European Commission’s research and innovation (R&I) policy regarding threats, opportunities, stakes and potential actions. The results were used in formulating recommendations for EU R&I policy and AI ecosystems.
