Title

Performance of VoNR and OTT Voice in Congested and Uncongested 5G Networks

Abstract
Open-source projects implementing components of 5G systems are the catalyst of the evolution of current telecommunication networks towards the 6th generation of mobile networks, driving prototyping and standardization. They also play a main role in the wide industrial adoption of private 5G solutions by small and medium-size businesses. In this paper, we conduct an experimental comparison of the performances of voice-over-new-radio and over-the-top voice services added to a 5G stand-alone testbed in congested and uncongested network conditions. At the heart of the experiments is the world's first open-source voice-over-new-radio prototype, which was recently implemented and demonstrated at the Technische Universität Berlin. Measurements of performance metrics, including call setup time, jitter and packet loss, are presented and evaluated.
