Free-Hand Acquisition, Reconstruction, and Visualization of Three-Dimensional Data Sets

3D Ultrasound represents one of the latest devel-opments in medical tomography. Its access to general use, however, is hindered by the existing devices which are still rather expensive for the medical routine, rather complicated in use, and too slow in computations. This paper is describing a solution that overcomes these handicaps by the following means: extension of existing 2D devices to 3D capabilities as well as the representation of the generated datasets by proper 3D visualisation methods, the necessary data filtering and an in-teractive segmentation.
