An expert system for technology planning of arc welding application

The paper presents a knowledge based system for the planning and diagnosis of technological parameter for automized gas metal are welding applications. The PROLOG-based system is designed as part of an off-line programming environment for industrial robots. It combines heuristic reasoning and data base retrieval techniques to derive a welding schedule. Welding schedules can be passed to a diagnosis module. The integration of planning and diagnosis techniques allows an iterative optimization of the technological parameter of the welding process. The system has been developed in the CIM-PLATO project of the ESPRIT research program of the European Community.
