Title

Dynamic testing procedure for evaluation of penetrator materials

Abstract
Kinetic energy penetrators are dynamically tension loaded during in-bore acceleration as well as during the penetration process when striking the target. Additionally, the tension test gives results that are better to explain than those of pressure or bending tests. Therefore, penetrator materials made from tungsten alloys have been investigated by dynamic tension tests, and an evaluation procedure is proposed, giving a connection between dynamic strength and ductility with penetration behaviour.
