Title

Domain-specific customizations for product line modeling

Abstract
For the specification of product line and single system requirements, a large number of modeling notations have been developed. These notations do not only vary in the syntax they use, but also in the information they are able to represent. At the moment, the decision of the appropriate modeling notation is left to the developer. The goal of this thesis is to provide a structured approach to support the decision which modeling notation should be taken for the development of a software system. The thesis introduces a set of application attributes with which the software developer can classify his software system and identify the domain-specific characteristics. Furthermore, suggestions for domain specific modeling concepts with respect to the application attributes are provided. A metamodel is presented which contains implementation independent modeling concepts for product line requirements. Although this thesis supports the development of domain specific product lines, the approach can also be applied to single system development. The approach of the thesis is validated by a conceptual comparison between an existing domain specific modeling notation (ROOM) and the modeling concepts contained in the metamodel.
