Abstract
Electric vehicles differ in flame and fire behaviour from vehicles with combustion engines. The safety of the traction battery is a particular challenge. In addition to damage of the battery cells by an external damaging event, such as a fire caused by an accident with a fuel-powered vehicle, the battery itself can become a source of danger due to an internal failure. The battery housing therefore has an important safety function. In order to reduce weight and costs, housings made of fi-bre-reinforced plastics are being developed.
