Title

Fatigue design criteria for ceramic components under cyclic loading

Abstract
The fatigue behaviour of differently manufactured Al2O3 ceramics and random samples of Si3N4 ceramics was investigated. The tests were carried out under different mean stresses at room temperature, 800 and 1200 centigrade using unnotched and notched specimens. In addition, some monotonic bending and compressive tests were performed. Based on the results, a concept for dimensioning ceramic components for high-cycle fatigue applications was developed.
