Electricity production costs from photovoltaic systems at several selected sites within the European Community

The cost for photovoltaics, as calculated in the following text, are based essentially on experience gained in Europe with prototyp systems. Social and other external costs in electricity production are not taken into account. In addition, an estimate for the year 1995 is attempted. This is based on the extrapolation of existing and proven technology, but does not assume any technological leaps. On the longer term, one can assume that significant further cost reductions will be achieved as a result of the continuing research activity.
