Title

Carving and reorganizing fragmented MP3 files using syntactic and spectral information

Abstract
File carving is the art of recovering files from a storage media without having any information about the file system. In the last few years, a lot of research has been done on fragmented file carving. However, not much has been done for fragmented audio file carving. Audio files such as, voice logs, audio chat logs, voice messages, etc., can be important evidence in an investigation. We introduce a new concept for carving and systematically organizing fragmented MP3 files using MP3 syntactic properties and utilizing neighbour frame similarities in the Modified Discrete Cosine Transform coefficients.
