Annotated observations as knowledge construction elements in visual data analysis

The paper introduces a methodology to capture ideas and relevant background knowledge of the user evolving from the interactive manipulation with data analysis software. Observed patterns are highlighted and annotated with the use of intuitive techniques. Observations, hypotheses and ideas are represented as structured collections of annotated states of the process of analysis.
