Other Title
Organic compounds in cloud water
Abstract
The aim of this work was the development of sampling devices and sampling and analysis methods for the determination of organic compounds in the different phases of clouds with the goal of attaining knowledge about the distribution, concentration, formation and transport of these compounds in the troposphere. It was found, that mononitrophenols origin to a large extent from primary anthropogenic emission (car exhaust) while dinitrophenols are mainly formed by atmospheric reactions. It was shown, that besides a possible formation of nitrophenols by gas phase reactions, nitration of phenols and nitrophenols occurs in cloud droplets. The phase distribution of the phenols and nitrophenols was studied, partitioning constants were derived and compared with literature data. The results of this work allow conclusions on sources, atmospheric lifetime, transport and deposition of phenols and nitrophenols.
