Methodenentwicklung am Fraunhofer-Institut für Lebensmitteltechnologie und Verpackung für reale Verpackungssysteme

The life cycle of packaging and the resulting environmental effects will be studied from the point of the initial extraction of raw materials to the eventual disposal of recycled state of the packaging. The methodology report was presented to and accepted by both the German Umweltbundesamt and the industrial working group in September 1992. The method allows to get a complete picture of the environmental effects combined with a special product. In parallel an appropriate computer program was developed with a related database for industrial processes, transports, energy generation processes and waste management. The computer program is operational. Thus enabling the user to construct specific life cycles of packaging systems.
