Title
Cyber-Physically Controlled Smart Machine Tool Systems - Standardization Efforts in ISO/TC 184 and ISO 23704 Versus Controller Implementation in Dynamically Evolving Environments
Abstract
Industry 4.0 has engendered promising enabling technologies in the field of information processing with industrial controllers, data acquisition, data processing and control by networking controllers with each other and with master control entities. This opens up adaptive process adjustments and autonomous operation for machine tools and production systems. Various smart technologies arouse by different machine manufacturers, mostly based on their own concepts and using dedicated terminologies. Hence interoperability and a common understanding of those technologies is not yet existent. Standardization activities, such as ISO 23704 series, developed by the Technical Committee ISO/TC 184 is working on this to generate relevant standards and modelling paradigms for smart machine tool systems. However, the market requires hands-on solutions for putting Industry 4.0 technologies in circulation on shop floors with state-of-the-art machine controllers for quick and efficient outcomes. The paper analyses the current state of standardization in ISO 23704 with a cutting edge technology combining smart manufacturing demonstrator, realized by Fraunhofer IWU.
