Viscous liquid flow heating

The experimental data base on viscous flow heating of liquids is summarized. Of particular interest are the tests on reactive liquids due to their known initiation temperature. The data base shows that cases have been observed where ignition events have been recorded, yet the measured and theoretical predicted temperatures were well below the initiation temperature of the liquid. Because of the discrepancy, we also examine other mechanisms which might contribute to the observed ignition events.
