Title
Field report on power plants modeling for electrical power system stability studies
Abstract
In order to perform dynamic stability investigations in electrical grids, appropriate dynamic simulation models are necessary. The dynamic simulation models of the controllers of conventional power plants often make use of IEEE standard block diagrams, which are usually available in the standard library of the simulation software. However, the use of standard library models is not straightforward, as implausible results or errors can often be observed during subsequent validation procedure, requiring dedicated adjustments to the dynamic model. This experience report presents potential pitfalls within a dynamic electrical grid model implementation for capturing long-term and short-term dynamics and shows the corresponding validation procedure.
