Title
Experimental results of the HHI broadband communications network
Abstract
In cooperation with the German telecommunications industry, the Heinrich-Hertz-Institut Berlin (HHI) has realized an experimental broadband communications system. It performs service integration of telephone, data, videophone as well as TV- and stereo-broadcast distribution, employs central as well as decentralized switching, and utilizes-besides analog transmission-digital transmission via optical fibres up to the rate of 560 Mbit/s. At present the system is undergoing a long duration testing in order to gain experience of the long time behaviour of the optical components and to measure the bit-error-rates and the phase jitter.
