Stochastic compressive failure surface modelling for the unidirectional fibre reinforced composites under plainstress

Abstract
We present a finite element modelling framework to capture the distribution of in-plane compressive failure strengths of unidirectional fibre reinforced composites resulting from the characteristic spatial distribution of fibre misalignments. Using a homogenized fibre-matrix representation of composite, the spread of resulting peak stresses calculated using Monte Carlo simulation led by fibre orientations given at each material point, are used to formulate probabilistic failure surface.
