Stress analysis of pull-off tests for strength measurements of coatings

For the determination of the mechanical strength of coatings for prostheses materials usually the pull-off test is applied. The results, however, are obviously influenced by the testing procedure. This Finite Element (FE) study shows that stress concentrations in the range of more than 10 can cause considerable errors. The effects of different geometries and the material parameters is shown.
