Interactive services in the 80s and 90s

After a very general explanation and discussion of the scope of the new Bildschirmtext services under headings like data-, graphics-, text processing and interactive communications, the possible future improvements and changes are investigated. The main weakness of interactive viewdata is the slow speed (1200 bit/s to the subscriber, 75 bit/s to the computer). The suggested changeover to the ISDN network (Integrated Digital Network) with a transmission rate of 64kbit/s will get rid of slow page turning and be of great help to business communications. The technological means are already available, such as fibre-optics and VLSI devices.
