Conventional production control systems are too inflexible in order to cope with the increasing complexity within production. Industry 4.0 offers new possibilities for better processes and thus increasing efficiency. This article characterizes the requirements of a modern control system and describes a methodology with which companies can identify the individual potentials of Industry 4.0 for their application.
