A fiber-optic broad-band integrated services network for the subscriber area

The authors present a new approach for a future integrated subscriber network. Single-mode fibers will be applied to subscriber lines as well as to the trunk system, the transmission bit rates are 1.12 Gbit/s and 2.24 Gbit/s, respectively. The feasibility of this approach is investigated by means of an experimental system. Some key components of the network are already available in the laboratory.
