Title

Application of flash radiography to the analysis of simulated liquid gun propellant jets

Other Title
Anwendung der Röntgenblitzfotografie zur Analyse von Simulationstests zur Einspritzung bei Flüssigtreibmittelwaffen
Abstract
Experiments were undertaken in order to simulate systematically the liquid injection process inside a regeneratively injected liquid propellant gun. For high injection rates it is difficult to photograph this process optically because the jet core is normally hidden behind clouds of dense droplet sprays. Using a high intensity soft x-ray generator we could get valuable information on the jet structure and disintegration. The paper compares shadowgraphs taken by two different techniques as injection pressures up to about 200 MPa and prepressures in the observation chamber up to 10 MPa.
