Title

Real-time Capable Control Room Laboratory for Communication and Integration Analysis of Various Power Grid Software Components

Abstract
Utilizing the appropriate tools to monitor and control power grids is crucial for all control rooms. Many specialized solutions available in the market today (e.g., software for forecasting services or wind turbine control) can greatly help integrate renewable energies into a power grid. It is paramount that the hardware and software of individual components in control rooms communicate and operate with each other effectively and reliably. To address this need, Fraunhofer IEE has developed an independent control room laboratory for research on topics such as control algorithms and grid data models. This paper presents the technical setup and preliminary performance test results. Initial findings indicate quicker communication between the laboratory components led to greater overall system stability.
