Title

Process technology and device for joining of metal with non-metal components for composite-metal structures

Abstract
Modern composite materials are increasingly used in the sheet metal fabricating industry, especially in the automotive sector. Future joining and assembling technologies are absolutely necessary to handle the multi-material combinations that occur. The paper focuses on the development of a new riveting technology. An innovative robot guided riveting tool has also been designed. Several further applications seem to be possible, e.g., clinching, blind riveting, screwing and friction-stir spot welding. Design matters are discussed as well as real test results. An immediate application of this flexible joining system is planned especially for small and medium sized businesses.
