Title
Utilization of C1 Gas Streams from Chemical Processes
Abstract
The chemical industry is one of the most energy-intensive sectors of the manufacturing industry and is thus also one of the largest emitters of CO2 in this sector. The ammonia, petrochemical and carbon black processes alone are responsible for 80% of the chemical industry’s CO2 emissions. The suitability of this emission as a raw material for subsequent recycling varies greatly, as only 2% of these CO2 streams are highly pure. They are used as CO2 industrial gas, e.g. in the food industry. Other emission streams would have to be purified before further utilization. Since some of the emitting plants are very large in volume, they are point sources with particular utilization potential. Sites with such chemical plants may therefore be particularly suitable for the material use of CO2.
