Combining AC and DC power technology - a novel approach for micro smart grids

A Micro Smart Grid is a spatially limited energy system that combines energy resources (energy generators and energy storage devices) and energy consumers. The Micro Smart Grid is operating in parallel to the public grid and can be physically separated from it when network conditions are critical. We propose a novel approach for the energetic integration of Micro Smart Grids by seizing the benefits of both AC and DC technology. This paper describes our Micro Smart Grid and the proposed AC/DC configuration.
