Title

Nanoelectronics for smart cities

Abstract
Miniaturization and integration, which play an essential role in nanoelectronic components for energy and battery management for local and distributed systems, go hand in hand with the requirement to increase the power density. Nanoelectronics will also be essential for all monitoring and control systems in order to ensure energy efficiency. Both transmission and storage of massive sensing data pose new challenges to nanoelectronics. Nanoelectronics will soon be faced with the huge challenges of smart cities. Within a smart city, urban innovation will therefore be based on an additional nanoelectronics-based infrastructure - the information network, which will become as essential as the power grid or the water supply. To be precise, for realization of such a new infrastructure, nanoelectronics and smart systems are needed for secure generation, transmission, processing, and storage of information as well as for handling data within applications.
